PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Shane Pinto, the center for the Ottawa Senators, made his ice comeback on Sunday against the Philadelphia Flyers, having missed the first forty-one games due to an NHL suspension for “activities related to sports wagering.”
In 82 games for the Senators the previous season, Pinto, 23, finished with 20 goals and 15 assists. The league’s investigation yielded little details and no proof that Pinto wager on NHL games; in subsequent interviews, Pinto has withheld further information.
Against the Flyers on Sunday, Pinto was the second center on the ice and received his first shift early in the first period.
With 33 points, the Senators, who have fought to finish last in the Eastern Conference, were eager to get Pinto back in the starting lineup.
