After Guenther Steiner’s unexpected departure, Haas is expected to sign the fired F1 team chief.

Alongside Ayao Komatsu, Haas is expected to provide Otmar Szafnauer with a path back to the Formula 1 paddock as team leader.

 

The F1 bottomfeeders have elevated the Japanese engineer to the position of team principal. It comes after the departure of Guenther Steiner, who managed the team since Haas’s inaugural Formula One race in 2016 and co-founded it ten years ago.

Command was assigned to Komatsu because owner Gene Haas made it apparent that he wished to put more of an emphasis on engineering. However, in order to handle the other aspect of the team principal function, the team is also employing a chief operating officer.

Szafnauer, the former head of Alpine, has been recommended as the best person to fill that position. According to Ralf Schumacher
