Omari Forson, 19, made his first start for Manchester United on Saturday in the Red Devils’ 2-1 loss to the London club at Old Trafford. He played for 53 minutes, marking his fourth appearance for the team this season after coming off the bench in the FA Cup matches against Wigan Athletic and Newport County.
Forson also made another cameo appearance earlier this month against Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding Forson’s future at the Theatre of Dreams as his contract expires this summer and he has not yet signed competitive terms offered by any club.
The teenager’s contract expires this summer, and he hasn’t signed the attractive terms the team has offered.
Industry insiders pointed out that Man United’s chances of keeping him would be negatively impacted by playing him on a weekend, as it would increase his profile and complicate negotiations.
The Red Devils, meanwhile, contend that playing him demonstrates his obvious route to the first team.
When Forson joined Man United in January 2019 from Tottenham Hotspur, they were required to pay a set amount under the training and compensation plan.
He played in the FA Youth Cup winning team in 2022 and pre-season with the senior team ahead of the 2023–24 campaign, making appearances against Leeds United and Borussia Dortmund.
Since then, Forson has stayed with the senior team and improved his athleticism.
Many European teams are keeping an eye on him, and it’s unclear if Man United will be able to persuade him to sign a new contract in the end.
Given that Rasmus Hojlund is still sidelined due to injury, Forson will probably have more opportunities to shine because it looks like he is currently better than both Antony and Amad Diallo. The Red Devils are hoping that this will help convince Forson to stick with them.
Given his enormous potential, Man United will be desperate to stop him from moving on because if he does, they will only get paid by the next team he plays for.
