The Cleveland Browns have already added a couple different offensive players in free agency. The fact that they agreed with free agent quarterback Jameis Winston is arguably the biggest and most unexpected.
With Winston joining the team, Joe Flacco’s time in Cleveland is probably coming to an end. He stepped up and helped the Browns stay afloat in the 2023 season, when they most needed a quarterback due to injuries.
He had hoped that he would be given another opportunity to rejoin the team, but they have decided to take Winson in a different direction. After beginning his career with the New Orleans Saints, the No. 1 choice in the 2015 NFL Draft played for the New Orleans Saints for the previous four seasons.
Winston was supposed to replace Drew Brees with the Saints. His first opportunity to be a starter once more was going nicely.
The club was off to a 5-2 start when Winston sustained a season-ending knee injury while playing for his old side.
Despite his best efforts to recuperate and be prepared for the 2022 season, he suffered from injuries once more. Andy Dalton took over as the starting quarterback because Winston never regained it, not even in his best condition.
He was again a backup in the 2023 campaign, this time to Derek Carr. When Winston went on the open market this year, he grabbed a backup position again, this time in Cleveland behind Deshaun Watson.
