George North, a Welsh rugby centurion, declared today that his final test in the red jersey of Wales will be this weekend’s Guinness Six Nations encounter against Italy.
The 31-year-old made his test debut for Wales against South Africa in 2010 and has since earned 124 caps while scoring 49 tries. Apart from his Welsh achievements, North has played for the British and Irish Lions in three test matches, collecting two tries.
North’s involvement is not surprising as he has previously stated that he will be leaving the Welsh United Rugby Championship team, the Ospreys, at the end of the season to play for Provence in the French Pro D2.
North announced, “I have decided that the game on Saturday will bring my international career to an end,” in a statement posted on his personal X account.
“I feel like this is the perfect time to go away after 14 years. I have had the pleasure of playing with some incredible teammates and have loved and treasured every moment of wearing a Welsh shirt.
“To have realized my dream is a great blessing. Looking forward to the upcoming chapter. I appreciate all of your help throughout the years.
This Saturday at the Principality Stadium, in front of his home crowd, North will start at outside center.
