Everyone understood that the New Orleans Saints would need to take action about Demario Davis’ contract in order to get under the salary ceiling. The linebacker’s contract was about to expire, and he had a cap charge of more than $18 million. That isn’t the case now with the advent of free agency.
According to Adam Schefter, Davis and the Saints renegotiated the terms of his contract, giving him a two-year, $17.25 million agreement with a $13.25 million guarantee in place of the previous one. The agreement offers the 35-year-old linebacker an opportunity to retire with New Orleans, as Schefter reported.
Demario Davis and the Saints ink a new two-year contract.
With the new contract, Davis’s 2025 free agency status will now be delayed to 2026. In addition to being a vital leader in New Orleans, Davis continues to be a top player for the Saints. Davis started all 17 of New Orleans’ games in 2023 and finished with 121 tackles, 12 for a loss, and 6.5 sacks. He was selected for his second consecutive Pro Bowl.
Prior to joining the Cleveland Browns in 2016, Demario Davis played his first four seasons of professional football with the New York Jets. Davis played for the Jets for another season after being traded back to them after a year in Cleveland. He signed a free agent contract with the Saints in 2018 and hasn’t looked back.
In addition to playing some of the best football of his career over the previous six seasons, Davis has grown to be a significant component of the team and the community. A member of the Saints’ second team in 2019, Davis was selected to the First Team All-Pro. Davis has been selected to the Second Team All-Pro in each of the last four seasons (2020–2023).
He will now play for the Saints going forward, probably finishing in New Orleans. Demario Davis’s main goal for the next two seasons will be to assist the Saints in returning to the top.
