Although he didn’t leave high school with the same star rating as Caleb Downs, the University of Alabama is thrilled to have the football player take over for the native Georgian in its defensive secondary.
During spring practice, Red Morgan, a four-star freshman from Phenix City, Alabama, has drawn attention.
He is positioned as a “Husky,” or free safety, and has made plays on the field.
The 6-foot-175-pound player has wowed coaches and teammates by dismantling the defense and making an impact during scrimmages. Among the in-state candidates in this recruiting class was Morgan.
In an interview with Roger Hoover of Crimson Tide Sports Network, junior wide receiver Kobe Prentice likened Morgan to Downs.

Morgan will be “special” for Alabama’s program, according to Prentice.
