The New Orleans Saints were very excited about the 2024 NFL Draft. In the first round, they selected the best offensive lineman in the class.
They are currently deliberating over an intriguing choice involving former Oregon State RT Taliese Fuaga.
According to reports, the Saints are giving Fuaga some reps at LT at rookie minicamp.
Dennis Allen talked about the Fuaga relocation at his press conference on Friday.
The Saints frequently make this switch. Before playing tackle last year, Andrus Peat spent the most of his professional career being pushed inside. When he was in college, he worked as an OT.
Cesar Ruiz played guard and center in college, but since Erik McCoy joined the Saints offensive line, he has only played guard in the NFL. Although many had anticipated that he would play center in the pros, guard has been a better fit for him.
As a veteran with New Orleans, James Hurst alternated between guard and tackle positions. Remember that when Ryan Ramczyk first joined the league, several scouts thought he was a guard as well. That sentiment was obviously not shared by the Saints, and it has paid off.
Overall, the Saints are accustomed to switching up players on their offensive line.
Some people say that it’s similar to driving on the wrong side of the road, but I’m not sure what they mean…. It just takes some getting used to. I have nothing further to say about that.
Fuaga regarding the exchange
Fuaga is well aware that if the team wants him to start at LT at the beginning of the season, he needs to shed some of the rust. Having said that, keep in mind that May is here.
To determine where he best supports the rest of the offensive line, New Orleans would be wise to assess him for an extended amount of time at both tackle spots.
Although Trevor Penning was selected as a left tackle in the draft, he still has a lot to prove. Should he fail to secure that position, Fuaga might be chosen. We’ll watch how the Saints OL and the remainder of camp play out. Many reps and plenty of time ahead.
