Andy Cole, a legend of Manchester United, has supported Everton’s response to the Jarrad Branthwaite bid.
When the summer transfer window opened on Friday, his previous club made an initial bid of £35 million plus an additional amount of about £8 million.
At the Blues, where it’s thought the center back is worth significantly more, it was judged unacceptable.
The modest offer may have come from Manchester United’s belief that the bid could take advantage of the club’s financial predicament, as Everton intended to reject it. Everton is among numerous clubs whose attempts to adhere to expenditure caps would be enhanced by a sale completed prior to the month-end accounting deadline.
However, the 21-year-old Branthwaite, who is now a senior England international following an incredible Premier League breakthrough season, was thought to be worth much less than the amount made by Everton.
Cole, for one, feels that Everton owes Manchester United nothing. When asked if he believed the club was right to value the prodigy at an alleged £70 million, he replied to Betfred, “100%.” Given that he is 21 years old and that Manchester United has made an offer of £35 million plus add-ons, Everton should probably do them a favor and tell them that this is a great bargain, especially in light of their current issues. In the past ten years, Manchester United has overpaid for every center-half they have acquired. After spending an enormous amount of money on them, what will happen? It will cost you almost £35 million with add-ons to get him out of Everton.
