The Los Angeles Sparks suffered a major blow on Tuesday when forward Cameron Brink tore her ACL, ending her promising rookie season early. Remarkable rookie Caitlin Clark also lamented Brink’s injury at a press conference on Wednesday, prior to her team’s game against the Washington Mystics.

“You don’t want to watch somebody suffer from an injury of any kind, especially not one that serious. It simply rips your heart, even though I know she’s the kind of girl who will be able to overcome it and emerge stronger.”

Brink, who is 22 years old, was selected second overall in this year’s WNBA draft, just behind Clark. Brink averaged 8.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game during her brief season.

She slipped while driving to the hoop during a game against the Connecticut Sun, which resulted in the injury. Brink used social media to discuss her feelings and update her fans on her status after receiving the news.

She wrote, “You never think it will happen to you.”

And in spite of all the effort, it does occasionally occur. Although it’s difficult to comprehend, I know that it will only strengthen me.

Due to her injury, Brink will miss the remainder of the WNBA season in addition to the summer Olympics in Paris, where she was supposed to play for the United States’ 3×3 basketball team.
