Albert Sambi Lokonga and Sevilla have reached an agreement on a season-long loan agreement, but there is one last element that needs to be finalized.
Albert Sambi Lokonga is reportedly close to joining La Liga team Sevilla during the summer transfer season, according to a report by the Spanish outlet COPE. Los Nervionenses and Arsenal have reached a verbal agreement regarding a season-long loan, with the Andalusian team willing to pay his salary of €3 million annually. Still needs to be finalized, though, before the relocation can be implemented.
Albert Sambi Lokonga’s struggles at Arsenal
When Albert Sambi Lokonga joined Arsenal in July 2021 from Anderlecht, his progress has come to a complete standstill. The Belgian international was loaned to Crystal Palace in January 2023 after a difficult first 18 months of playtime with the North London club.
Last summer, Luton Town completed a season-long loan agreement with Arsenal on the Deadline Day, causing another temporary exit from the team. At Luton Town, Lokonga went in and out of the starting lineup while playing in 19 different competitions for a total of fewer than 1,500 minutes. He contributed one goal and three assists.
After his loan at Luton Town ended, the 24-year-old returned to Arsenal, but he has no future at the Emirates. According to several reports, the Gunners are prepared to let him go during the summer transfer window. However, Sevilla is eager to sign Lokonga, so another loan move might be planned.
Is a La Liga switch imminent?
It seems sense that Albert Sambi Lokonga would pique Sevilla’s interest. During the summer transfer window, the Andalusian giants have been in talks to sign the Belgian midfielder from Arsenal on a season-long loan. Prior to the 2024–2025 campaign, they will like to add a midfield player, and Lokonga is a possible candidate.
Arsenal is now amenable to another loan departure during the summer transfer window, despite their softening attitude on selling Lokonga. According to the most recent information, Sevilla and Arsenal have reached a basic understanding over a season-long loan agreement, with Los Nervionenses willing to pay his €3 million salary annually. To make the move happen, there is still one element to be finalized.
Arsenal is going to try to get Lokonga’s loan agreement to contain a buy-back clause. The Andalusian behemoths, however, only wish to include a buy option. Thus, if one of the two sides can make a concession on their desire, the motion will go forward.
