Christie Sides, the coach of the Indiana Fever, likened Caitlin Clark to one of the best players ever.
Following an 83-78 victory over the New York Liberty, in which Clark became the first rookie in NBA history to post a triple-double, Sides stated she believes Clark has the potential to be among the finest players in the world.
Sides also made the decision to argue for Clark to win Rookie of the Year, a contest that should get very tough as the season goes on.
“I will constantly argue in favor of my players.” She is the most competitive person I have ever encountered, first and foremost, Sides remarked, before going on to say, “I really compare her to Diana Taurasi.”
She’s constantly trying to figure out how to improve. “How can I support the group?” “What can we do?” But all she wants is to succeed.
She simply wants to win, and for me, that means she will be my daily pick for [WNBA] Rookie of the Year.
Since helping Iowa to the national title game two years in a row, Clark has been playing well for the Fever this season. This is her first season in the WNBA.
When Clark first entered the league, Taurasi predicted on ESPN that “reality is coming” for her. That was during the second of the two championship games.
That was accurate, in a sense. In only a few games, Clark will surpass the record for the most turnovers by an individual in a season because she leads the league in just one area.
However, that’s essentially the only criticism leveled at the Fever youngster. She ranks in the top five in assists, top ten in 3-point shooting, and top 20 in scoring in the league.
If that’s enough to keep her ahead of Chicago Sky center and opponent on the court Angel Reese, that’s the only question.
Recently, Reese broke the record for the most straight double-doubles of any player in the history of the league, continuing his dominance in Chicago.
