The younger players on the Indiana Fever are largely responsible for the team’s recent success. With the addition of Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston, Indianapolis went from being a yearly cellar-dweller to a legitimate playoff contender.
Before August arrived, the Fever’s record for the 2023 season was 6-19. They placed eighth in the league this year after finishing the first half of the season with 11 wins and 15 losses. After two years with one of the worst records in the league, they are in a good position to qualify for the playoffs.
Lin Dunn, general manager of the Fever, hopes to leverage this success to bolster their offer to free agents. During an interview with The Next Hoops’ Howard Megdal, Dunn stated that their free agency effort will primarily target their best players.
Dunn said, “It’s an exciting time.” Want to play some music with Aliyah Boston? Are you interested in playing with Caitlin Clark?
Dunn also praised Clark’s passing in particular and gushed over her All-Star Game performance. With ten assists in the game, the Fever rookie set a record for the most assists by a first-year player.
“Didn’t that send a message how skilled and how talented and how tough she is?” Dunn mentioned Clark’s appearance in the All-Star Game. She is competing against our Olympic team, which is the greatest in the world, in addition to being a novice on the court. And ten assists, that’s what she had?”

Throughout her brief WNBA career, one of her greatest weapons has been Clark’s passing. The youngster struggled at first to connect with her Fever colleagues, but she was excellent at spotting open women on the floor. She established the league record for most assists in a game last July 6 against the New York Liberty with 19, just before the WNBA took a break.
Proficient passers often entice talented players to join them. After all, who wouldn’t want to play with a legitimate distributor? The Fever are hoping that Boston’s and Clark’s skill set will enable them to bring in more elite players.
