With his outstanding play for the London Knights, Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan is leaving his imprint in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). In addition, he is endorsing his selection to be the Maple Leafs’ first-round pick in the NHL Entry Draft of 2023. The Maple Leafs selected Cowan with the 28th overall pick.
With his name inscribed in the London Knights Record Book, Cowan
Cowan made history with the Knights yesterday by extending his point streak to an amazing 34 games. He had two assists in his team’s 7-4 victory over the Windsor Spitfires on Sunday. It’s interesting to note that the first of his two assists during the game set the record. Someone would have been all over the event if that had occurred in the NHL. But nobody seems to pick up the puck or commemorate the historic event (from Jim Parker, London Free Press, March 17, 2024, “34 games! Easton Cowan sets new London Knights point-streak record”).
Cowan’s feat surpasses the previous franchise record, which was established by Dave Gilmore in the OHL in 1993–94. Cowan has demonstrated significantly more offensive ability than anyone could have predicted during his run. He scored 20 goals and tallied 33 assists for 53 points in 68 games during the previous campaign. He has already scored 32 goals and tallied 60 assists this season in just 52 games (for 92 points). He has a good plus/minus rating of plus-36, which makes him interesting. Right now, he is among the top six scorers in the OHL.
Cowan’s Hockey Career Prior to 2023–2024
Cowan originally demonstrated his talent with the Komoka Wings, where he played Junior B hockey in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), scoring 34 points in 24 games prior to joining the Knights. He’s been improving ever since he joined the Knights. He is being known as one of the best prospects for the Maple Leafs. He was brought into the organization by the Maple Leafs, where he has excelled both on and off the ice, thanks to his outstanding play at the Traverse City Prospects Tournament and their training camp.

Cowan and his Knights squad are both headed for great seasons with just two games left in the regular season. Right now, the Knights are at the top of both the Western Conference and the OHL. Cowan will be able to add two more games to his existing record-breaking total in their next contests.

Fans of the Maple Leafs have to wonder if he has a shot to make the parent team’s postseason roster given his accomplishments. Given his talent and motivation, if not this season, he will undoubtedly get his opportunity with a major league team eventually.
