BREAKING: ‘I Cried’: Djokovic Opens Up About How He Disappointed Himself By Undergoing Surgery…

Recently, Novak Djokovic discussed an operation he had to have and the reasons he regretted his choice.

Tennis fans are familiar with the progression of Djokovic’s career in terms of outcomes and on-court exploits. We are largely ignorant of the opposing side’s perspective because the Serbians never permitted an excessive number of backstage cameras.

His participation at the Upfront Summit is a really interesting collection of some really great behind-the-scenes moments, but for now, fans are going to witness a movie or documentary one day.

Because of his elbow problems, Djokovic had a difficult season in 2017. It plagued him for some time before he bit the bullet and had surgery in 2018.

It remains the only surgery he has ever had, and Djokovic finds it a terrible memory and a huge letdown. He had always been committed to preventing injuries, therefore having to have surgery was not something he wanted to undertake because of his moral convictions.

“Prevention is something I really believe in, not only in athletics but in life in general. I had a serious elbow injury, so I’ve only had one major operation. Naturally, there has been wear and tear over the years from many lengthy games and seasons.”

“I’ve always been strongly opposed to tables and pills, so I didn’t want to start the season in that fashion, but I had no choice. I was trying to avoid surgery, but eventually I had to get it done.”

Djokovic was fortunate to have supporters who helped him see the bright side as well, and his disappointment soon subsided as he began to win tennis matches once more. Considering the amount of wear and use he put on his body over the years, it’s rather surprising that he was able to keep that one operation.

“I cried after surgery because I felt like I let myself down, not because I was in pain. I try everything in my power to avoid having surgery because my guiding attitude is to avoid having one done. It was as if my mother were there, attempting to reassure me that everything will be okay.”
