Chase Young, an edge rusher with the New Orleans Saints, is reportedly scheduled to have neck surgery one day after agreeing to a $13 million, one-year contract.
According to ESPN, Young’s surgery will keep him out of action through training camp, but the pass rusher should be back in time for the start of the season. According to reports, the Saints signed Young knowing he had a neck problem, yet they didn’t hesitate to offer him the deal.
Although Young participated in a career-high 16 games the previous season, he sustained a stinger injury during an exhibition versus the Cleveland Browns in the previous year’s preseason, which resulted in a neck injury. He was out for around a month due to the injury, which prevented him from playing in Washington’s season opener.
Throughout his four-year career, Young’s neck surgery will be the most recent health concern. Young sustained a serious knee injury in 2021 that resulted in an ACL tear and a ruptured patellar tendon. Due to the injury, the 24-year-old missed a total of 20 games; he did not make a comeback until three games remained in the subsequent season.
Young, the 2020 No. 2 overall selection who was awarded Defensive Rookie of the Year, suffered a major setback due to the knee injury.
Young played for the Commanders and the San Francisco 49ers last season, recording seven and a half sacks despite the neck injury. At the trade deadline of the previous year, he was traded to San Francisco in exchange for a compensatory third-round pick.

Young was signed by the Saints in an effort to address their pass-rushing issues. With just 34 sacks during the 2017–18 NFL season, New Orleans was placed 28th.
