Report: Tennis Falls in Tight Battle at Penn State…

No. 73: University Park, Pennsylvania The Rutgers women’s tennis team (10-7, 1-5 B1G) fought hard against Penn State (4-11, 3-2 B1G), but lost 4–3 on Friday night at the Sarni Tennis Center.

It took three straight singles wins for Penn State to get ahead after RU won the doubles point. Naomi Karki and Mai Nguyen recorded wins to help the Scarlet Knights equalize the dual, but PSU eventually claimed the dual with a three-set win on the second court.

Two times

They won the doubles point by beating the other team on the first and third sets.

Yana Gurevich and Nguyen beat No. 69 Olivia Dorner and Karly Friedland to get their first B1G ranked win as a pair.

Penn State tied the match with a win in the second court. Then Amira Badawi and Karki came through for RU and won the third court, 6-4.

It didn’t take long for the Nittany Lions to win the dual when they won three straight singles matches.

With their second wins of the afternoon, Karki and Nguyen kept RU in the match, level at three points apiece.

Court No. 2 was a fight between Badawi and PSU’s Dorner. The rivals split the first two sets, with the Nittany Lion taking the first and the Scarlet Knight taking the second. The match-deciding third set was a battle, but finally, Penn State clinched the dual with a 6-4 win in the final frame.
