Trevor Story Could Be Perfectly Replaced by Brewers Slugger in a Trade with the Red Sox…

At shortstop, the Boston Red Sox could use some assistance.

This season, Boston has experienced some bad luck. Most recently, great shortstop Trevor Story was lost to a shoulder injury. He will now be sidelined for the remainder of 2024.

Top prospect Marcelo Mayer of the Red Sox is in the minor levels, but it doesn’t appear like he’ll be called up to the major league team anytime soon. Although it doesn’t seem like a trade is happening anytime soon, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him in Boston at some point this season.

David Hamilton and Pablo Reyes are Boston’s current starting line-ups, but more work needs to be done if the team is to return to the postseason. Willy Adames of the Milwaukee Brewers is a shortstop that may be a great addition to the Red Sox, as they are in need of some assistance.

Despite being the subject of trade speculations for the past year, he still lives in Milwaukee. With 11 games played, Adames has two home runs and four RBIs this season for the Brewers, where he has gotten off to a good start. In the previous season, he launched 31 home runs and drove in 98 runs. In 2022, he blasted 24 home runs and drove in 80 runs.

It might be challenging to make a deal with Milwaukee’s 8-3 record, but Adames will be a free agency at the end of the campaign and probably won’t be coming back. He would be a great replacement for Story while the team waits for Mayer to be called up if the Red Sox could snag him.

Even with Story out for the season, Boston still has a lot of talent, but adding a seasoned, experienced shortstop like Adames could only be beneficial. Additionally, Boston lost an essential right-handed bat in Adames’ lineup with Story out.

Though it is doubtful, a trade would be a terrific alternative for the Red Sox right now.
