JUST NOW: During spring practice, Kalen DeBoer points out how bad Alabama’s offensive line is…

For the next fall season, Alabama will have new offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic and head coach Kelen DeBoer. In addition to wanting improved snaps, Crimson Tide supporters also want to see more physicality in run blocking and efficient pass protection. During spring practice, Coach DeBoer pointed out that the offensive front was the most improved group. On Monday’s “Hey Coach” program, he gave a commendation to the team to Roger Hoover of the Crimson Tide Sports Network from Baumhower’s Victory Grille in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. During the spring game, Alabama’s running backs efficiently ran the ball, while the quarterback had multiple successful passes to wide receivers.

From the first practice to the fifteenth, DeBoer extolled the virtues of the front line’s development.

Regarding the offensive line, DeBoer stated, “That group did a great job.”

“I honestly haven’t given much thought to which group has improved the most, but if I had to start anywhere, I would go with them. It was simply how they were able to advance their strategy as a whole. They ran the ball well in the first scrimmage, but their defense was lacking. There was strong pass protection in the last scrimmage. This not only made it possible for the quarterbacks to work down the field on short passes, but it also initiated the run game and play-action passing. Overall, I felt they did a pretty good job. Some guys played multiple positions, there were movable parts, and their positions gave us more depth and versatility.

In the spring, Alabama rotated a number of players into the offensive line, but from left to right, Elijah Pritchett, Tyler Booker, James Brockermeyer, Jaeden Roberts, and Wilkin Formby seemed to be the starting group. The left side becomes more intriguing with Kadyn Proctor’s return. Pritchett might go to right tackle for the Tide if he wins the tackle position.

The way summer exercises and fall camp unfold will be interesting to watch, but it’s wise to
