Hall of Famer Rebecca Lobo claims that just a few months into her first season with the Indiana Fever, Caitlin Clark is already the best passer in the WNBA.
After breaking collegiate records with Iowa, Clark entered the major leagues with a tremendous reputation. Now that Indiana has selected her with the first overall pick in this year’s WNBA draft, she is more than living up to the hype.
With 8.2 assists per game on average, the 22-year-old is leading the rookie standings in both assists and points (17.1).
She didn’t do enough to win over Team USA coach Cheryl Reeve, though, and she was left off the squad for the Olympics this summer despite her quick start.
However, Lobo claims that Reeve did not bring the league’s top passer with her to Paris at this time.
The former WNBA All-Star described Clark as “incredible” on SiriusXM.
“I believe that Chelsea Grey has been the best point guard in the world and the best passer in the WNBA over the last few years.” [But] I believe that Caitlin is currently passing her, if not exactly there. She is, in my opinion, the league’s top passer at the moment.
Clark is leading the league in assists, but one of the few things that worries me about her play is that she turns the ball over an average of 5.6 times a game.
The chances Lobo takes, particularly on get-ahead passes, mean that her turnovers will always be a tad bit higher.
