Heartbreaking in Gainesville: Florida defeats LSU 82….

Tuesday night, Matt McMahon’s Tigers played well on the road, but Jordan Wright’s potential game-winning shot at the buzzer rimmed in and out, as LSU lost to Florida 82-80.

Although LSU (12-12, 4-7) has now lost three straight, the Tigers persevered as they overcame a 20-point deficit.

LSU’s defense is still a weak point. Tennessee scored 88 points, Alabama scored 109, and Florida shot 66 percent from the field in the first half against the Tigers. It’s particularly aggravating given LSU’s offensive production was more than sufficient to defeat both Florida and Alabama.

“Your margin for error on offense is nonexistent when the opponent shoots 66% as they did in the first half of a game,” McMahon stated. “We had some poor plays and missed some free throws in the first half, but we should be proud of our players because they managed to claw their way back into the game and give themselves a chance at the end.”

It was always going to be the hardest month for LSU, and that is starting to happen in February. After suffering three straight losses, LSU will now have to travel to No. 11 South Carolina this Saturday (2:30 PM, SEC Network).
